From January - June 2008, the families of the Las Lomitas and La Entrada schools participated in a grass-roots effort to fight global climate change, using the Community Cool Campaign offered by Ellen M. Wilkinson and Acterra, a local environmental organization.

Who was behind the Cool Campaign? The Cool Team is a group of district parents who have been working with the Las Lomitas and La Entrada PTAs to help get the message out that there are many things families and individuals can do to help the environment. We wanted to find out whether, if we worked together and took it a step at a time, we could start to slow global climate change by changing our lifestyle habits. And we succeeded! Over 260 families participated in the campaign and over 2,500 energy-reduction actions were taken as a result of their involvement!
This website, a Cool Campaign yahoo group and a groundswell of interest in continuing to find environmental issues to rally behind are the legacies of the campaign. If you are interested in reducing your energy use, check out the Monthly Challenges pages and Other Cool Resources for some great ideas on how to begin. Or if you participated in the campaign and are interested in new ideas, check out When the Campaign Ends.
The Cool Campaign was not an official Las Lomitas School District program, nor was it directly sponsored by the schools. For more information on the history of the Cool Campaign, click here.

The Las Lomitas & La Entrada Community Cool Pledge:
With this acorn, a symbol of growth and promise for the future, it is our pledge to join other Las Lomitas / La Entrada families in challenging ourselves each month to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide we emit into the earth's atmosphere, thereby protecting the climate for our children and future generations.
